Job Title:  Lead Custodian, Los Gatos Meadows

Department: Housekeeping Department

Primary Purpose: To execute housekeeping programs and procedures by training, supervising, inspecting and motivating the custodial staff to ensure all tasks are completed correctly and schedules are maintained with the direction from the Housekeeping Manager. This is a production, nonexempt position. The Lead Custodian will take on specific assignments on a daily basis as well as oversee the daily activities of the custodial staff.

Job Performance Standards:

I. CORE PERFORMANCE STANDARDS: Constantly exhibits behavior as set forth in the Core Performance Standards.

II. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

A. Performs all housekeeping and custodial-related tasks demonstrating service orientation to fellow staff members, residents, resident staff and suppliers.

B. Works closely with and motivates the custodial and housekeeping staff to ensure work is performed properly and schedules are followed.

C. Inspects common areas and periodic checks of independent apartments for cleanliness and following of safe work practices.

D. Assists Housekeeping Manager with daily assignments of housekeepers and custodians, as well as recommends assignments for overall cleanliness of the building.

E. Assists Housekeeping Manager with conducting training sessions with housekeeping personnel regularly and as scheduled on the yearly training calendar.

F. Monitors and inspects housekeeping equipment daily to ensure it is maintained in a clean condition and in good repair.

G. Assists the Facility Services Director with supervision of the department in the absence of the Housekeeping Manager.

H. Maintains good public relations with all residents, patients and staff members. Participates in resident activities and special events as requested.

I. Assists with tracking chemicals and supplies for the department.

J. Participates in Facility Emergency Plan training and fire drills; and if an emergency or disaster occurs, immediately assumes the pre-assigned emergency duties.

K. The employee shall work well under pressure; meeting multiple and sometimes competing deadlines. The employee shall at all times demonstrate cooperative behavior with staff, colleagues and supervisors.

L. Any other tasks as assigned by the Housekeeping Manager or the Facility Services Director.

M. Must work with the PM custodial Shift in all aspects of Team cleaning

Education Requirements/Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required

  • Ability to perform in all aspects of the Housekeeping and Laundry Department.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of all areas of position in order to train and direct staff.

  • A minimum of three (3) years of housekeeping services experience.

  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in a supervisory position.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead personnel.

  • Ability to speak on the phone, use a copy machine, printer and other equipment in the department.

  • Computer literate.

Exposure Risk:

The Lead Custodian, when performing administrative duties, is at low risk; and when performing housekeeping duties, is at high risk for exposure to blood and body fluids.

Physical and Sensory Requirements:
(With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices)

  • Ability to move intermittently throughout the day.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.

  • Ability to relate and work with the disabled, ill, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility.

  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with others throughout the facility.

  • Ability to interact effectively with visiting company representatives.

  • Ability to push, pull, and move heavy equipment and supplies throughout the work day, including lifting 35 pounds, following safety precautions and instructions at all times.

  • Position may require working evening, night and/or weekend hours.

  • Must complete physical examination and TB test.

  • Employment contingent upon fingerprint clearance from Department of Justice.
